Vaca football wins big over Vintage

In an era of absolutely gaudy offensive numbers, these are now the gaudiest.

Vacaville High School's football team blasted visiting Vintage 56-7 Friday night, and perhaps the most shocking number of all was 6 ... the Bulldogs' total was a mere six points over its average for the season.

Is it the offensive line ... or the quarterback ... or the running backs ... or great defense that sets up the offense?

"It's a little bit of everything," Vacaville head coach Mike Papadopoulos said. "I don't think the defense gets enough credit. They certainly put us in some good positions. (Vintage) had some good schemes, but once we were able to figure them out, we shut them down."

The Crushers scored on their second possession of the game, but not again.

The Bulldogs stopped Vintage on fourth down on three separate occasions in Vacaville territory. Hudson Buck added an interception, and Ben Holmes had a fumble recovery.

Oh yeah, and there was offense, too.

Vacaville, which rushed for 545 yards two weeks ago, topped the 500-yard mark again with 521.

Quincy Forte was one of seven Bulldogs with touchdowns but was the only player with two, on runs of 51 and 10 yards. He also rushed for 95 yards on just nine carries.

"We have a fantastic line," Forte said. "The holes are just big ... really big. I love that line."

Jimmy Hines led Vacaville with 118 yards rushing and a touchdown, and topped the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight season.

De'John Miller added 108 yards rushing on just six carries, including a 4-yard score. Roman Hauser also scored on 4-yard run, and gained 98 yards on six attempts.

Buck also scored on a 10-yard run, and Tyler Irwin had a 20-yard scoring pass to Blakelyn Birks.
