Vaca freshman football tops Wood

Vacaville High School's freshman football team scored 40 points in the first half and made it stand up in a 40-23 win over Will C. Wood on Thursday.

Nic Ardave completed a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Cheechov and also had scoring runs of 30 and 29 yards. Jared Paulin added a 15-yard touchdown run and Jared Grotke raced 10 yards for a score.

Cheechov had four 2-point conversion runs and Ardave had one. Zach Dawson recovered a fumble.

Vacaville completed its season 4-0 in the Monticello Empire League and 6-1 overall.

Wood did all its scoring in the second half. Justin Mandigal and Jonathon Camacho each had short touchdown runs. Sukhsimran Dhaliwal completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Lejon Sewell.

Camacho and Mandigal had 2-point conversion runs and Adrian Maldonado kicked an extra point. Trevor Hebert recovered an onside kick and intercepted a pass. Adam Mohr also had a fumble recovery.

Wood fell to 1-6 on the season. The Wildcats have a makeup game next Thursday at Napa.
