Vaca freshmen win football opener

Nic Ardave threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Clay with 3:50 left, and then hit Clay again for the 2-point conversion, as Vacaville High School's freshman football team opened the season with a 14-12 victory at Rodriguez Thursday night. The Bulldogs trailed 12-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter.

Jaden Grotke finally got Vacaville on the scoreboard with a 5-yard touchdown run with 7:30 left in the game. Trey Boles added an interception, and Willy Moore added strong play from the safety position.
