Ellison powers Granite Bay over Vacaville BY: KEITH JOUGANATOS/ ROSEVILLE PRESS TRIBUNE
VACAVILLE — The grizzly bear is one of the most deadly animals known to man and is capable of defeating an opponent with one mighty swing of the paw. Vacaville High’s varsity football team saw what they were capable of, traveling in packs and equipped with pads and helmets. The Granite Bay Grizzlies (2-1) defeated the host Vacaville Bulldogs (2-1) 46-28 on Friday to claw their way over .500 for the first time all season. The ironic part? They sent in a tiger for the job. Senior receiver Tony ‘The Tiger’ Ellison bolted for 143 rushing yards and five touchdowns, including four on the ground as Granite Bay rallied to their second win since a season-opening loss to Folsom. "Tony was amazing,” Granite Bay coach Skip Albano said, “Our guys did a great job of blocking up front as well, but Tony was just simply amazing in his ability to make plays tonight and help us get the victory.” Ellison also credited his offensive line. “Without the offensive line I'm nothing, so big shoutouts' to those guys for allowing me to succeed tonight and help us pick up the big win,” Ellison said. In addition to the outpouring of yards and points via the rushing attack, Granite Bay was well-rounded in seemingly all aspects of the game. Quarterback Josh Neal and wide receiver Marc Ellis hooked up twice for two touchdown passes to bust open the score. The Bulldogs tried to hold their ground, with twin running backs David and Daniel Mewborn each rushing for a touchdown, but penalties and turnovers (including a blocked punt) led to one-sided ball control by the Grizzlies.. The man of the hour was Ellison, who simply could not be controlled nor do wrong for Granite Bay. He was excited about just being able to keep the good vibrations going for the team. “Tonight was all about us getting our season back on track and we accomplished that,” Ellison said. Moral of the story? Eat your Frosted Flakes. Granite Bay 46 Vacaville 28
